Video: 4 Acres of Sawdust Go Up In Smoke

MILLPORT, Ala. – (WCBI) – You could see the smoke from 6 miles away.

A 4 acre pile of wood chips and sawdust caught fire at a sawmill, on the Northern edge of downtown Millport, Alabama.

The fire started about 4 o’clock Monday (7-1) afternoon.

35 firefighters battled the blaze for 4 hours before it was safely contained.

The fire will likely burn for another 3 or 4 days.

Firefighters from Millport, Kennedy, Liberty, Star-Sunnyside, Gordo, Bethlehem and McShan skillfully kept the fire from spreading to the nearby woods and hay fields.

The Alabama Forestry Department  brought in bulldozers to help.

Arson is not suspected.

Firefighters will continue to keep a close eye on the situation.
