Burglary strikes Caledonia Pharmacy twice in four days
LOWNDES COUNTY Miss. (WCBI) – It’s been a long week for a Caledonia business and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.
“We are investigating two separate burglaries that occurred at the Caledonia pharmacy,” said Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins.
Hawkins said he is seeing a pattern in the crimes.
“They are targeting these mom-and-pop type drug stores vs the chain stores, because of the remote location that the stores are in and they feel like it is less security,” said Hawkins.
Hawkins and his investigators are asking the public for help in identifying the thieves.
“We are investigating two different burglaries from two different sets of groups that were going into the stores and seeking these drugs and if anybody in the public has any information that can help us lead to the arrest of these individuals, they can call us or call crime stoppers and if we do use that information, they are entitled to a reward,” said Hawkins.
The sheriff has some advice for pharmacies.
“Working out of a safe and putting all the drugs where they can lock them up and night sure would deter someone from trying to come in and steal the drugs that they are looking for and they are looking for things like opioids and Xanax and things that they can sell quickly off the street because those things bring a lot of money so keeping those drugs locked up in a safe would deter someone from trying to break in there and steal the drugs and there are other security measures that they can take by adding security alarms that could help us identify these people” said Hawkins.
He also has a message for the suspects.
“They need to find somewhere else to do that stuff because it will not be tolerated here, and you will be held accountable,” said Hawkins.
