South Side Elementary celebrates students’ success
The A rating is the first of many in the West Point school district.
WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – Students at South Side Elementary in West Point were celebrated for their academic success.
The Golden Triangle Dream Center served up hot dogs and hamburgers for the students and teachers as an extension of their adopt-a-block program to build relationships in the community.
Earlier this year, the Mississippi Department of Education released the 2022 through 2023 accountability ratings, and South Side earned an A status.
The A rating is the first of many in the West Point school district.
WCBI talked with Principal Casey Glusenkamp and Dream Center Founder John Almond about rewarding the students’ and teachers’ accomplishments.
” Nobody likes the word testing. It’s kind of the dark cloud that hangs over our students at the end of the year, especially 3rd graders who have to take that reading gate to be promoted to 4th grade so we promise them a lot of things because we have really smart kids but they are kids and everyone likes motivation and to be rewarded for their hard work, so we have just done several little things throughout the year to remind them to do their best and to show them that we appreciate them,” Glusenkamp said.
” We thought this would be a great opportunity to come and celebrate these kids and their wonderful faculty,” Almond said.
Principal Glusenkamp said it’s always important to remind students and teachers that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.
