GOLDEN TRIANGLE, Miss. (WCBI)- This holiday season you might consider buying second-hand.
During the Christmas season, people scramble to buy the newest gifts for their loved ones, but have you ever considered buying gently used.
Shopping secondhand is beneficial for local businesses and the community.
Captain Thomas Johnson of the Salvation Army agreed.
“Second-hand helps not only ourselves but also helps those in the community. When you shop at the Salvation Army, you are also helping your neighbors in need because the funds that we raise at our family store help those in our community that are in need,” Johnson said.
Money spent at the Salvation Army goes right back into the community.
“All throughout the year, when folks come in our doors and they need assistance we are able to say yes because of the customers that come to our family store,” Johnson said.
Besides helping the community, Joanna Staten of JJ’s Consignment says thrifting also helps your wallet.
“the thing about second hand is, you get name brand products for not name brand price so you can come get something gently used, almost new, but at a fraction of the cost. You never know what you are going to find in here,” Staten said.
