Dixie Butler honored by arts community and the city
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – This year’s edition of the Columbus Art ‘n Antiques Show and Sale started off with a tribute to one of the founders of the event.
The opening of this year’s event was a reception honoring Dixie Butler.
Butler was recognized for her efforts to advance the arts and historical preservation in Columbus and the surrounding area.
She and her late husband Carl Butler were both longtime educators. They also participated in the Columbus Pilgrimage for decades and helped start the Art ‘n Antiques Show and Sale.
She recently donated money to commission a statue of Tennessee Williams that will be placed in front of the Tennessee Williams Welcome Center.
Thursday night, the arts community and the city gave back to her.
She was presented with a painting by Golden Triangle artist Deborah Mansfield, and honored by city leaders.
Visit Columbus CEO Nancy Carpenter said the Arts ‘n Antiques Show and Sale will have a special feature this year.
“The mayor tonight has just given her a wonderful proclamation, November Third in Columbus, Mississippi will be Dixie Butler Day. So this is a great honor for him,” said Carpenter.
The Art ‘n Antiques Show and Sale runs November 3 and November 4 at the historic Elks Lodge at 309 Main Street in Columbus.
