Manslaughter conviction: Monroe County man sentenced to 20 years

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Monroe County man will spend the next 20 years in prison for killing a man who had been reported missing.

James Eric Crisp pled guilty in Monroe County Circuit Court to a charge of Manslaughter in the death of Roger Taylor.

Taylor was reported missing in early 2019. His truck was found on Blair Cemetery Road a couple of days after he was reported missing.

In August of 2022, James Eric Crisp drove from God’s House of Hope recovery center in Kilmichael to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and confessed his involvement in Taylor’s death to Sheriff Kevin Crook.

Crisp said he had killed Taylor during an altercation at Crisp’s home in Gattman in 2019

He was released on bond under the supervision of God’s House of Hope until a plea agreement could be reached.

The District Attorney and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office consulted with the Taylor family regarding that plea deal.

Circuit Judge Kelly Mims sentenced Crisp to 20 years in prison.
