Autism Center of North Mississippi holds fundraiser
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Blue shirts and burgers were common sights in downtown Tupelo as the Autism Center of North Mississippi held a tasty fundraiser.
For the third year, Tupelo Parks and Rec hosted a “Burger Frenzy” for the Autism Center. Volunteers from the community, the city and parks and rec cooked hundreds of hambugers at Fairpark.
All proceeds helped the non-profit Autism Center of North Mississippi provide service to its clients across the region.
“We’ve got a really long waiting list, right now we’re serving between 70 and 80 kids every single week and those kids are coming to therapy between one and 20 hours a week for therapy, we depend on this fundraising, income, grants to support our center to get them off the waiting list, to hire more staff so this type of support is very critical,” said executive director for the Autism Center of North Mississippi. Brittany Cuevas.
The Autism Center just opened a program to serve clients up to 21 years of age.
The program is called BLAST and offers pre-vocational skills training, daily living skills training and social skills training.
