More booze for Super Bowl in Mississippi town

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) – Football fans will be able to imbibe a little longer in one Mississippi city this Sunday.

The Oxford Eagle reports the Mississippi Alcoholic Beverage Control division has approved the city of Oxford’s request that bars and restaurants be allowed to sell alcohol until 11 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday.

Alcohol sales normally cut off at 9 p.m. on Sunday in Oxford.

The Oxford Board of Aldermen approved the request for a onetime extension on Jan. 15 and alcohol officials approved it two days later.

The extension only applies to businesses serving alcohol onsite. Liquor stores will close at their normal time.
