New details in settlement from deadly Oktibbeha County crash

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – New information Friday in the settlement between the state and the victims of a deadly Oktibbeha County crash.

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety paid $133,000 to Tanequa Alexander and $83,000 to Noel Collier.

The estate of MSU track star Kaelin Kersh received $283,000.

Lawyers reached an agreement last June but it was not official in January 9 of this year.

There’s a $500,000 cap on damages when someone sues the state.

State Trooper Kyle Lee was indicted on the charge of Manslaughter – Culpable Negligence.

Prosecutors said he was driving at speeds up to 99 miles per hour when his MHP cruiser hit the victim’s car.

Kersh died in the May 2017 crash.

Lee was released on a $5,000 bond and was placed on administrative leave.
