Resource fair for homeless puts agencies under one roof
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Homeless people, and those struggling to make ends meet were able to connect with local social service agencies under one roof.
“Project Connect” brought together a number of agencies and organizations offering services to the homeless, or impoverished.
The event at Tupelo’s All Saints’ Episcopal Church is an extension of the Mississippi Balance of State Continuum of Care. Its goal is to let homeless people connect with a number of services.
It also allows different agencies to network with each other.
“We don’t always get a chance to come together, connect and refer to each other, this is a chance not only for those homeless people to come together and connect with services, but it’s also a chance for agencies around the room to connect and refer with other agencies because it may be that they know of a local agency, and heard their name but they don’t know exactly what they do, so this is a chance even for them to go and strike up a conversation and see how can I refer people to you and you refer people to me,” said event organizer Reginald Glenn.
Everyone who came to the event left with a bag of hygiene products.
The event was sponsored by the City of Tupelo Homeless Task Force, Families First of North Mississippi and the Northeast Mississippi Homeless Coalition.
