Shooting in Macon sends one man to the hospital and two others behind bars

NOXUBEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A shooting in Macon on Friday afternoon sends one man to the hospital and lands two people behind bars.

Macon police have arrested Jamesha Earvin and another man for their alleged involvement in the shooting.

Earvin is being charged with accessory after the fact.

Police Chief Davine Beck confirms that the victim, Roman Mattox, was shot multiple times in the chest.

Beck said he may have also been shot in the side.

Mattox has been taken to Baptist Golden Triangle.

His condition is not known at this time.

Mattox is the son of Noxubee County Sheriff Terry Grassaree.

The shooting happened at the intersection on North Street and MLK Street.

A nearby neighbor heard the gunshots ring out, then jumped into action.

“I was sitting in the house playing my game and I heard something that sounded like a gunshot, so I kept playing and didn’t think nothing of it, then I heard a knock at the door, and I kept playing, so then I heard it again,” said Joni Davis, who called 911 to alert them someone had been shot. “I come outside and the young lady said the guy was shot, so I called the police. I saw him laying down on the ground, he said he couldn’t hardly breathe.”

According to Beck, one more suspect is still at large.

Investigators said the shooter was in a grey Chevrolet Malibu with Tennessee plates
