Fruit baskets bring Christmas cheer to Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A group of volunteers are spreading Christmas cheer in Columbus.

The “Happy Christmas Fund” members delivered fruit baskets to more than 100 elderly residents Thursday morning.

Happy Irby, who created the fund, was a long-time employee at the Columbus Club at the Columbus Air Force Base.

Around the holidays, he used the tip money he earned to buy things for needy families.

That tradition was carried out again this morning.

Recipients of the fruit baskets were chosen by the Department of Human Services.
