Musical fundraiser to help pay for Tupelo transit fares

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A fundraiser Thursday evening will help those who may have trouble coming up with money to ride Tupelo’s Public Transit System.

The All America City has had a transit system since September.  While the cost is only two dollars per ride, a local businessman found out that some people can’t always find the money for the bus rides.

The Salvation Army helps provide bus ride money, but is always in need of more funds.

That’s what prompted Ethan Nolan to organize a musical fundraiser this evening at the Blue Canoe to help replenish the Salvation Army’s money for bus riders.

Nolan says it will be a night of music and fun to raise money for a great cause.

“As you know, in Tupelo, ninety percent of people have cars, we never have to worry about public transportation, but if you see, on 36 degree days, there are people riding bikes down the road, walking down the road, those people, I guarantee you, would rather be on a warm bus,” said Nolan.

The “Money for Bus Rides” Fundraiser will features a variety of area artists.

It starts at 7:30 Thursday evening at the Blue Canoe.

If you can’t make it Thursday night, you can donate at the events GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/for-tupelo-bus-rides.
