Officials: Deputy shot, hurt man who tried them running over

LEWISBURG, Miss. (AP) – A Mississippi sheriff’s deputy has shot and wounded a man authorities say tried to run the deputy over.

News outlets report the Desoto County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy shot Omar Paramo-Boyso in the hand Tuesday night. He was treated at a hospital and charged with DUI and aggravated assault on an officer.

Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Palmer says deputies were investigating a crash when a car driven by Paramo-Boyso passed by and nearly struck a patrol car. Palmer says deputies stopped Paramo-Boyso, who then tried running over an approaching deputy.

Authorities say the deputy fired several times into the oncoming car and Paramo-Boyso was later arrested.

Authorities say Paramo-Boyso, of Memphis, Tennessee, is in the country without proper documentation and is being held at the request of immigration officials.
