Corral To Throw Tuesday, No Starter Named For Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — Ole Miss head football coach Matt Luke said in his press conference quarterback Matt Corral will resume throwing on Tuesday.
“I’ll know a lot more Wednesday as far as the reps go,” Luke said, “We’ll know more when we get back out there. He’ll be able to throw on Tuesday, but I don’t think it’s right to give you an evaluation until we see him go in practice.”
Corral missed Saturday’s game against #2 Alabama due to a rib injury he suffered against Cal.
In his absence, true freshman John Rhys Plumlee threw for 141 yards, completing 10 of 28 throws, for two touchdowns and an interception. Plumlee carried the ball 25 times for 109 yards and a touchdown as well.
“That’s obviously a tough thing to do, to get your first start on the road in Tuscaloosa. I was very proud,” Luke said of the Hattiesburg-native.
“The moment didn’t look too big for him. I was excited about that. We ran the ball effectively, and that’s a good thing. We haven’t rushed for that many yards against them in a long time. I was pleased with a lot of the things we did.”
Luke said Plumlee “did enough” to earn playing time regardless of Corral’s status, but in terms of naming a starter, “we have to see Matt (Corral) go out there before we make decisions.”
Ole Miss takes on Vanderbilt Saturday, October 5th, at 6:30 PM CT (SEC Network.)
