2 shootings under investigation in Tupelo

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- It was an unforgettable holiday for all the wrong reasons for families in two area neighborhoods this year.

A Tupelo Police spokesperson says they’re investigating two shootings that occurred within 24 hours of each other.

The first one happened at one on Thanksgiving morning on Ruffwood STREET.

Police say the teenaged victim said he was trying to leave the house and get into his car when he was shot in the back.

He was taken to the hospital.

A family friend tells WCBI he has been released.

And at about the same time this morning, police responded to the 300 block of North Park Street.

Police say witnesses there told them shots were fired after several people started arguing.

They say one woman was injured, possibly because of flying glass.

Neighbors we spoke to say they were surprised.

Seth Cobb says it’s a reminder to protect your property and family, no matter where you live.

“We keep ourselves locked up, keep security system armed so uh, we feel like we keep firearms in the house so we keep ourselves safe here. Very cautious,” said Seth Cobb.

Police are still investigating both shootings.

They do not believe the two are connected, they say there could be up to two arrests tonight in the Ruffwood Street shooting.
