Senior citizens enjoy tailgate party in the park

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Senior citizens had a chance to enjoy the cooler temperatures at a special “tailgate party.”

Southern Care Hospice hosted a the tailgate party for seniors at Tupelo’s Ballard Park.  Senior citizens enjoyed music, food and special gifts from businesses in the medical field.

Organizers say the event is a way to show appreciation to those who have given so much to their families and communities through the years.

“A lot of times, our senior citizens, especially those that live in assisted living facilities or nursing homes, they don’t get to get out very often so one of the ways we try and give back at Southern Care Hospice is the fact we just want to reach out to these senior citizens, put a smile on their face, a smile is contagious, laughter is a great medicine and we’re just so thankful we can be part of their lives, as much as they are a part of ours,” said Ron Cottom, of Southern Care Hospice.

Southern Care Hospice holds community wide events on a monthly basis.
