Local car dealership victim of impersonation scam

STEENS, Miss. (WCBI) – Business was brisk at Allen Jones Used Cars in Lowndes County–but the customers were calling and coming by for all the wrong reasons.

They’re looking for cars from a Facebook account apparently set and run up by scammers. Someone has created a Facebook page with the name AJ’s Used Cars Inc.

The page advertised cars for sale at very low prices. Cars that typically cost between $15,000 and $20,000 were advertised for less than $2,500.

All the information on the page was fake, except for the listed address. That wasn’t AJ’s Used Cars Inc. address — its Allen Jones Used Cars address located in Lowndes County.

Jones said the scam artist collected down payments and payments to hold cars, and sent those buyers to his business. He contacted local law enforcement and Facebook and said all he can do now is wait, and take phone calls.

The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
