TPSD Wants Students To Be ‘CHAMPS’
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – The Tupelo Public School District is encouraging all students to become “CHAMPS.”
It is a positive behavior initiative the school district started in August.
CHAMPS is posted in hallways throughout all TPSD schools.
Each letter has a meaning, C stands for “Conversation.” H stands for “Help.” A is for “Activity.” M stands for “Movement.” P is for “Participation.” S stands for “Success.”
The acronym reminds students what is expected of them whether they are in the classroom, or on the playground.
“It gives them an opportunity to correct themselves, teaches them, voice levels, appropriate tone, ways to sit, things like that, how to appropriately move about, in the building,” said Heather Cartwright, assistant principal at Lawndale Elementary.
Students who model the best behavior get incentives and awards throughout each nine week period.
