Calhoun City schools rewarding positive behaviors from students
CALHOUN CITY, MISS. (WCBI) – Students in Calhoun City schools are learning that good behavior means positive consequences and even rewards.
Fifth graders through seniors at Calhoun City Schools are part of a program known as “Positive Behavioral Intervention And Supports” or PBIS.
That program is a way for schools to encourage good behavior. Students are taught about good behavior and the importance of doing the right thing.
Through PBIS, students get “tokens” they can redeem for rewards throughout the school year. It is all about prevention, as opposed to punishment.
“I’m hoping this affects them long term , hoping for a positive change in the culture of the school, being rewarded for their positive behaviors,” said Kountess Pierce, a teacher and coach at Calhoun City Middle School.
Students who exceed PBIS benchmarks will get a special end of year party in the spring.
