Waller claims he is only republican who can defeat Hood in governor’s race
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A candidate for governor in the Republican Primary runoff said he believes he is the only candidate who can defeat Democrat Jim Hood in November.
One day after being endorsed by Robert Foster, who was eliminated from the Republican primary for Mississippi governor, Bill Waller made the rounds in Northeast Mississippi.
The former Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice stopped in Tupelo Wednesday and talked about his stance on issues such as healthcare, infrastructure funding and repair, education and other issues.
Waller said he is a true conservative who can defeat Democrat Jim Hood.
“My goal when I qualified was to make the runoff, because I thought my best chance would be to win in a runoff, I felt there was a majority of people of Mississippi who wanted a change, over 50% of people in Mississippi are interested in healthcare, roads and bridges and we will carry that through August 27,” Waller said.
Waller and his Republican opponent Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves will take part in a half-hour debate one week from tonight.
The runoffs have been set for August 27.
