18-year-old identified as victim in deadly Columbus shooting
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – One of the victims in Thursday night’s shooting in Columbus has died.
Lowndes County coroner Greg Merchant has identified the victim as Xavier Dora, 18. Merchant said Dora died in surgery at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Golden Triangle Thursday night.
An autopsy has been ordered for Dora.
Another victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting happened in an abandoned house near the intersection of 17th Street and 5th Avenue South around 4:30 Thursday afternoon.
Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton said the investigation is in the early stage, but he knows that at leave five people were in an abandoned house when an argument broke out, leading to the shooting. Shelton said the people involved all knew each other.
