Video: Lowndes Trial Pits Landlord vs. Tenant

[bitsontherun lh4fSZ3s]LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A renter is accused of assaulting her landlord and a Lowndes County Circuit Court jury will have decide where a landlord’s rights end and a tenant’s begin.

Laura Griffin, 40, is charged with the Dec. 14, 2009 assault on Dean Loftis inside the duplex Griffin rented from Loftis. Griffin claims Loftis entered the duplex angry over a message Griffin had left three days earlier about hot water and appliances not working.

During lengthy testimony Monday afternoon, Loftis said she simply went to the unit to check on a heater and that Griffin attacked her, even though Loftis says she had the right to enter her property.

The case likely will go to the jury Tuesday.
