Emergency officials open Louisville tornado shelter
LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – In Winston County, local emergency officials have been working hard all day to prepare for the storms.
The new Louisville Tornado Shelter in downtown is ready to take in residents if storms threaten.
City officials have been setting up and are now ready to shelter large numbers of residents to seek refuge if needed.
“We opened in the spring and we caught the end of the weather season here. We’ve officially opened three times, the first time we had 200, the last time we had 1,000 people here. People are more relieved when they are here, they feel a little bit safer, so it’s going to be open in the event that there is significant weather,” said Director of Public Safety Chris Young.
The Louisville Shelter is just one of many in the area ready to open at a moment’s notice.
