Lee County schools hold convocation as new school year begins

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Teachers, faculty and staff in Lee County Schools were encouraged to leave a lasting legacy in the lives of students this year.

Lee County Schools held its annual convocation at The Orchard Church in Tupelo Wednesday. Stories were shared about the impact teachers have in the lives of their students.

The theme of the meeting was “Love, Creativity and Support.”

Superintendent Doctor Jimmy Weeks said the convocation helped make sure all employees are focused on the goal of not only providing the best education for students, but also making a difference in the lives of young people.

“As long as the kids in your classroom know that you love them, and that you’re there to help them, you’re going to be fine. I still remember my second-grade teacher, she was probably my most favorite teacher I ever had, still see her from time to time and every time I see her I hug her and she hugs me,” said Dr. Weeks.

By the way, this is Dr. Weeks’ last convocation with Lee County Schools.

This fall, he will take on a new role at the North Mississippi Education Consortium, providing professional development for teachers and administrators throughout the region.
