One Killed in Pontotoc Accident

ALGOMA, Miss. — The Mississippi Highway Patrol is currently investigating a one vehicle crash in Pontotoc County that claimed the life of a Pontotoc resident.

Troopers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:30am, near Algoma, on MS 341.

Upon arriving it appeared Danny W Pettit, 53, of Pontotoc, was traveling north on MS 341, in a 1997 Toyota Avalon, when he apparently ran off the right side of the road an his vehicle collided into a culvert.

Pettit was pronounced dead on the scene. It was unclear of the exact time of the crash. Pettit may have crashed during the early morning hours.

He was not wearing a seat belt.
