COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Columbus man pleads guilty to burning, biting and beating his 4-year-old son.

Jermaine Walker, 29, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for child abuse, but Lowndes County Circuit Court Judge Lee Coleman suspended seven of those years. He also was fined $1,200.

His trial was scheduled to begin Tuesday but he changed his mind and pleaded guilty Wednesday morning.

The child’s aunt reported the abuse after picking up the child, who was 4 at the time, in July 2008 and seeing bite marks, bruises and burns.

Walker still faces aggravated assault charges stemming from a shooting last year in Noxubee County.
