Multistate crime suspect, Alex Deaton, pleads to Mississippi murder charge
RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – Alex Deaton has pleaded guilty to murder, drive-by shooting and motor vehicle theft in Rankin County court Monday.
In March, 2017, Deaton was a fugitive wanted in connection with two murders and a string of shootings in Mississippi, a shooting, carjacking and kidnapping in New Mexico, and a carjacking and shooting in Kansas.
Monday, the judge sentenced him to life in prison for the murder charge.
He received another 40 years for the auto theft and drive-by shooting.
The family of the murder victim, Deaton’s estranged girlfriend Heather Robinson, was in the courtroom. They made statements during the hearing on how much they missed her and the pain and anguish Deaton caused them.
Prosecutors say this sentence ensures that Deaton will never leave a Mississippi prison.
He also faces murder charges in Neshoba County for the shooting death of Brenda Pinter. Authorities plan to try him there later this year.
