Local talent to be focus of radio show at historic Baldwyn Theatre
BALDWYN, Miss. (WCBI) – A Baldwyn businessman is putting together a radio show focusing on Mississippi talent.
On August 11, “2nd Saturday Live” will make its debut at the Claude Gentry Theatre, with a live audience, and lots of Mississippi artists.
Bass player Don Anderson is the band’s leader. He believes the broadcast will showcase well-known and up and coming Mississippi talent, and he says the audience will add to the excitement.
“We will have the live audience here, it will kind of , we can kind of play off the live audience, they don’t have to pay a cent to get in, they can just come on in and enjoy it and be a part of it with us,” said Anderson.
Richey will host the show from the theatre he bought and restored several years ago. In fact, Richey, who owns Quail Ridge Engineering, has been instrumental in revitalizing the historic downtown district and he believes “2nd Saturday Live” will generate more interest in the city, from artists, out-of-town visitors and other businesses.
“It’s sort of an evolution of what we’ve been trying to do here in Baldwyn, trying to make it an entertainment, dining, destination type community, it’s another part of the puzzle,” said Richey.
“I’m just hoping people come, they have a good time, it’s something they want to see more of, I think it’s one of those blasts from the past, coming back, into style,” said Clint Reid, who sings with the House Band.
“2nd Saturday Live” will be broadcast on Power 101.
Eventually, Richey hopes to get “2nd Saturday Live” on the entire “Super Talk Mississippi” radio group.
