Oktibbeha County man cited for violation of statewide burn ban

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Oktibbeha County deputies issue a ticket after a large grass fire is extinguished.

The reported fire happened in the Rock Hill Road area.

A plume of smoke could be seen inside the city limits of Starkville.

The Oktibbeha County sheriff’s department said Alex Mayfield was cited for violation of the state-wide burn ban.

Oktibbeha County Fire Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan said someone was doing some burning not realizing a statewide burn ban was in place.

Any damage to other properties would be a civil action.
