Starkville Police Chief announces retirement

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – After serving his community for nearly three decades, the top cop in Starkville has decided it’s finally time to turn in his badge.

Chief Frank Nichols made the big announcement during Tuesday’s Board of Alderman meeting.

Nichols will be stepping down from the position at the end of the year.

The veteran officer has been with the department since 1992.

He was appointed police chief in 2014.

Nichols said it’s been a great ride and he’s enjoyed serving the people in his hometown.

However, he feels now is the time for him to move on to the next phase of his life.

“It feels good to be able to say that I’m retiring,” Chief Nichols expressed. “I started in 1992. I worked my way up through the ranks and was able to be an FBI graduate, so I think I have a very accomplished career. I was told a long time ago by an older police officer who is retiring, he said, you’ll know when it’s that time, and that’s the way I feel now. I think it’s that time for me.”

Along with being a police officer, Chief Nichols also served his country for 16 years.
