Ole Miss chancellor speaks to reporters during conference call

OXFORD, MISS. (WCBI) – The new chancellor for the University of Mississippi said he looks forward to working with students, faculty and staff.

Although the announcement was cancelled because of disruptions, Glenn Boyce spoke to members of the media Friday afternoon during a conference call.

Much of the criticism focused on Boyce centers around his consulting work early on in the search for the new chancellor.

During the conference call, Boyce said he would consider returning his consulting fee he was paid.

Boyce also talked about concerns many alumni have about a possible name change for the university.

“At this point in time, I can tell you, we got to focus on today and tomorrow.  I really feel strongly our narrative has to be about who we are today and who we are going to become tomorrow.  Having said that, I don’t think people, many times, realize who we are today and realize just how great an institution we are.  And I plan on bringing that to the forefront, as chancellor and also plan on really pushing the future, and having said that, those conversations will take place within the context of how we move forward,” Dr. Boyce said.

Boyce served as IHL Commissioner until last June.  Boyce is 61 and will begin his role as chancellor on or before October 13.
