Substitute Teacher Could Face Sexual Battery Charges
LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A Lee County substitute teacher faces a court hearing to determine if he should be charged with sexual battery.
Lee County court records filed last week by the county’s prosecuting attorney show 24-year-old Matthew Blake Whitt faces sexual battery charges for improper relations with a 15-year-old Mooreville student.
Under state law, as a teacher Whitt must either waive his right to a probable cause hearing or face a hearing in circuit court to determine if the evidence warrants criminal charges. That hearing could be held Wednesday.
Lee County school officials would not discuss the case other than to say Whitt has substituted in Mooreville about five times this year.
Whitt’s Facebook page says he attended Blue Mountain College.
