Community Recovery of Lowndes County stepping up to help storm victims

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A new organization has taken action to help storm victims.

Community Recovery of Lowndes County is coming together to meet the unmet needs of the community.

This non-profit organization is encouraging victims of the February floods and tornado to seek assistance.

Case managers will be working with residents to meet their needs.

Cleanup is still ongoing in affected areas, and the program needs all the help it can get.

Volunteers and donations are needed to help recovering residents.

“People can’t wait to get back into their homes they can’t wait to see if the federal government is going to reverse that decision. we’ve got to raise money, and we are wanting the community to know that all of it is going to be entrusted into our care and we are going to do to be the very best stewards of it and make sure that people get the help that they really and truly need,” said Nicole Clinkscale.

“We have got to have volunteers, and those volunteers come in many skill sets. If you have one person in a group of eight or 10 that likes to help and they know what they’re doing as far as light construction, that’s probably going to be the most of it, most of it roof and rafters all that kind of thing. Most anybody and maybe after you tear some sheetrock out of the house everybody can use a paint roller or paintbrush, and if you can’t we’ll teach you how,” said Vice Chairman Tommy Gillon.

There will also be spiritual care and counseling available.
