New Lights May Take Some Getting Used to in Starkville

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- The highway patrol hopes a new traffic signals will make a couple of Starkville intersections safer.

The intersection of 182 and East Lee Blvd and the intersection of 182 and Old Mayhew Road now have traffic lights.

Those lights turned on this week, and law enforcement is encouraging drivers to be careful.

They say to take it slow as you get adjusted to the new changes.

“We are just asking for people to be aware because there hasn’t been any lights they are since they put those two lights they are near the highway patrol station there in Starkville just asking everyone to slow down until they become used to the lights they are making themselves and where for safety reasons,” Sgt. Derrick Beckom.

A Mississippi State track and field athlete died in a crash at the Mayhew Road and 182 intersection in 2017.
