Sheriff: Man With Rifle Storms Into Restaurant, Opens Fire
HURTSBORO, Ala. (AP) – An Alabama sheriff says a man with a rifle has stormed into a restaurant and opened fire, killing the owner and wounding three other people.
Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor said the suspect came into the City Grill in the east Alabama town of Hurtsboro on Wednesday morning. Taylor says the man yelled out a name and opened fire with the .22-caliber rifle.
Taylor said the wounded were taken to hospitals, and one of them was in surgery.
The sheriff tells The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer that 69-year-old Donny Hughes, who owned the restaurant, was killed.
Taylor says the suspect is in custody. He declined to release his name.
Hurtsboro is near the Alabama-Georgia line, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) southwest of Columbus, Georgia.
