44 Jobs Eliminated at MDOT
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — The Mississippi Department of Transportation is eliminating 44 jobs in its Right-of-Way Division.
Jason Scott, spokesman for MDOT, says the workers in the Appraisals and Titles section of the Right-of-Way Division were notified this past week. He says workers will be employed with the DOT until January.
MDOT officials say no other layoffs are planned.
A majority of the MDOT’s money has been shifted to existing highways instead of new road projects. The Right-of-Way Division’s workload decreased, but staff remained at the same level.
MDOT officials say the agency is adopting “best business practices, right-sizing our workforce and improving business processes with a focus on ways to reduce operational costs.”
