4-County reminds citizens to stay safe when decorating
4-County Power Association CEO Brian Clark says those lights may brighten the holidays, but they need to be looked over closely as long as you plan to use them.
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – When most people think about Christmas, some people may think of presents and stocking stuffers. Christmas is also a time of hanging lights and other decorations.
4-County Power Association CEO Brian Clark says those lights may brighten the holidays, but they need to be looked over closely as long as you plan to use them.
“Everybody has a memory right, when I see lights, I think of family time and laughing, a lot of food in your belly,” Clark said. “I do not know what everyone else thinks of but I think it is different for each person and I think the real reason for Christmas is why we celebrate Christmas and when Jesus was born and that is what I think of. If you are using older lights, inspect them especially if you get cheaper lights because they don’t hold up well year after year because some lights are designed for just one year and if they are fraying and you use them while it is moist outside, that is not safe.
Clark has some advice for you when decorating your home.
“Do not staple the lights, don’t use indoor extension cords outdoors, and if you have a live Christmas tree, some of those lights can be dangerous, so you have to be safe,” Clark said.
Clark says you should also store lights a certain way.
