MOOREVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A 3-7 season would be discouraging for most high school football teams in Mississippi.
Not at Mooreville. The Troopers are looking on the bright side going into 2014 with a young team that gained valuable experience in 2013.
“We had a tough year but we were young with only four seniors,” head coach Kevin Austin said. “We’ve got some guys who’ve played a lot of football coming back.”
This season, Mooreville will stick to their guns as they hope to pound the rock against their opponents.
“We’re going to have to run the football,” coach Austin said. “We have all five offensive linemen back and both running backs. We’ll be a little inexperienced at quarterback but we’ll need a good mix of run and pass. We’ll have to depend on those five guys up front to protect and open some holes for us.”
Another look on the bright side for the Troopers is how wide open the division is going into the season.
Mooreville is arguably one of the more experienced teams returning in Region 1-3A and that’s a motivating factor that coach Austin is telling his team prior to the season and division play.
“We have the experience to play against North Pontotoc, Booneville, Kossuth and Belmont but it will all be tough,” coach Austin said. “It is completely wide open with no easy weeks.”
The Troopers will start on the road at Tishomingo County before the home opener versus Nettleton on August 29th.
