ABERDEEN, Miss. (WCBI) — Expectations are always high going into every season at Aberdeen.

Let’s face it, it’s Aberdeen. Expectations are nothing new for the Bulldogs.

Last year though, the Bulldogs finished a modest 7-6 but it always was leading towards this season where coach Mark Bray knows his offense will really unleash on opposing defenses.

“We feel like skill-wise we will be better than last year,” coach Bray said. “With as many returning on offense, we feel like we can score a lot of points. Defensively though if we want to make it to Jackson, we have to get a lot better.”

It will all be about the offense early on in 2014 with the DeenTown Dawgs and that’s a bit different to hear.

When the name Aberdeen comes up in football discussions, defense is typically the first thing that comes to mind.

It’s a new era though that rolls on this year with senior quarterback Josh Williams leading the way.

“We do have a young squad,” Williams said. “But I feel like when we get it all together we’re going to look a lot better.”

“Early on we feel like we’re going to have to score points to win,” coach Bray said. “We feel like we can get better defensively each week and hopefully by the time the playoffs start both sides of the ball are clicking.”

Speaking of Williams the three year start at QB returns at litany of talent at the skill positions including Tyreke Gates, Jerrick Orr and Donte Carter amongst many others.

Expect some shoot-outs on the scoreboard from the Bulldogs this year, and that’s just fine with the senior leader at signal caller.

” I have a great and strong receiving corps,” says Williams. “We have a good squad that needs to come together as a team. When we start doing the little things right, we’re going to look pretty good.”

“I remember three years ago when he (Williams) didn’t know much of anything,” Bray said. “Now, you don’t even have to say anything to him. When he makes a mistake, he’ll tell you what he did. It makes a big difference having someone like that.”

It’s a tough non-division slate once again for the Bulldogs to begin the season as Aberdeen will travel to Shannon before returning home to host New Hope and the A-Game.
