Veteran Lawmaker Dies

William Eugene “Billy” Bowles

HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI)-William Eugene “Billy” Bowles, who served 20 years in the Mississippi House of Representatives and ran Bowles Grocery for 34 years, has died. Bowles was 78 years old.  He died Sunday (9-23) at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.  Funeral services will be held at two in the afternoon Tuesday (9-25) at the Houston First United Methodist Church in Houston.  Bowles retired from Legislature in 2004, and was chairman of the Oil and Gas committee from 1992-2004, as well as a strong supporter of small businesses.
