COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Growth and progress take funding.

Mississippi State University President, Dr. Mark Keenum spoke to the Columbus Exchange Club Thursday about the present and the future at MSU.

As the university prepares the budget for the new year, Keenum says, if Initiative 42 passes in November, higher education will feel the results.

“Implementing Initiative 42 will impact our education. It is not my position to take a position on 42. But the leadership of the state are saying that if Initiative 42 passes, other agencies including universities, including community colleges will have to be cut. That’s not right. That’s not fair. That will put an unfair burden on our universities,” Keenum says.

Initiative 42 is on the November ballot. If voters approve the measure, lawmakers will be required to fully fund education
