Oxford Police Arrest Four on Theft-Related Charges

OXFORD, Miss. (Police Press Release) — Oxford Police have arrested four people in three different theft-related cases.

On Friday, November 28, officers observed a black male, later identified as Melvin Lee

Westbrook, 50, carrying a leaf blower and weedeater around South 16th around 1 a.m.

The officer stopped to speak to Westbrook due to this area being known for burglaries and the time of morning. Westbrook then ran and got into a white Ford Mustang and sped off. Officers began pursuing the vehicle until it stopped near Hwy 30.

Westbrook was taken into custody.

After an investigation, police say they discovered Westbrook stole the items from a shed behind a residence on Pierce Avenue along with other items that were recovered in the car.

Westbrook was charged with Burglary – Breaking and Entering Dwelling House or Inner Door of Dwelling (97-17-23) and (97-9-72) and Failure to Stop Motor Vehicle When Officer Signals.

Westbrook was given a bond of $20,000 and also has a hold on him for the Mississippi Department of Corrections for probation violation.

On Sunday, November 30, 2014, Oxford Police Officers arrested Trinity Hastings, 24, of Bruce, and Cassandra Babb of Paris, Miss., for shoplifting after they were caught by Walmart employees.

They allegedly stole $1,200 worth of merchandise from the store. They have been charged and bond was set at $2,500.

On Monday, December 1, the Oxford Police Department arrested Jimmy Williams, 22, of Oxford, for burglary of a residence and felony credit card fraud.

On Tuesday, November 4, a victim reported his house was broken into at Lafayette Place.

Through our investigation, officers found that Jimmy Williams allegedly broke into the residence and stole multiple items, one being a credit card.

Williams used the credit card and was additionally charged with a felony credit card fraud.

He was given a bond of a $3,000.
