Video: Alabama Hits The Polls
ALICEVILLE, Ala. (WCBI) – It’s election day across Alabama. Voters are choosing new city leaders, but at least one town is experiencing some difficulties.
In Aliceville, things started out a little hectic not long after the polls opened, but it didn’t last long. Locals, candidates, and campaigners took over the one and only voting precinct exercising their voting rights, vocals, and plans.
Voting machines were down when doors opened Tuesday morning, but luckily, there’s always the old fashion way to save those votes.
“You feed the vote in the box, and at the end of the day, they will feed it into the machine,” says Aliceville City Clerk, Dineki McCaa.
Voters are choosing a new mayor, and 3 new council members.
“The town needs to grow. We need to have more things in the town so we can have more people you know, we just need to come together,” says voter, Latona Davis.
One voter says the town is dying, and his voice can be heard through his vote.
“We need opportunities here. There’s no opportunities for the young people. The young people are leaving because there’s no opportunities here, and there’s plenty of industries that could come,” says Anthony Barnes.
The ‘I voted’ sticker brings a lot of pride for voter Robbie Davis.
“I feel like this is my privilege as an American citizen, and our forefathers fought and died for that privilege, and we need to exercise it at every opportunity.”
The big draw, it’s the first time to pick a new mayor in 12 years.
“I actually think this will be one of the biggest races Aliceville has seen in a long time, so I am expecting over 1,500 people to come out,” says McCaa.
The polls close at 7 p.m. You can go to WCBI.com for the latest results, and join us on WCBI News at 10 p.m.
