UPDATE – EMT Dies In Afternoon Crash In Chickasaw County

CHICKASAW COUNTY (WCBI) – A MedStat EMT is dead after an afternoon collision between his ambulance and the cab portion of an 18 wheeler.  Chickasaw County Coroner Michael Fowler says 54 year old Michael Collums of West Point was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.  His co-worker 51 year old Raymond Reed of Caledonia was transported to North Mississippi Medical Center with what are described as serious injuries

State troopers  say the ambulance was traveling westbound on Highway 32 near Van Vleet answering an emergency call.  They believe at this time the truck belonging to Blissard Express was behind another car heading eastbound and as they topped a hill the car saw the oncoming ambulance and slowed rapidly.  The truck driver swerved to avoid the slowing car and collided head on into the ambulance.   The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating and is expected to release more information later.
