STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A number of professionals came together at Mississippi State to explore challenges and new opportunities in energy storage.

It’s all apart of an energy symposium, led by the Joint Center for Energy Storage Research.

JCESR creates new, breakthrough energy storage technology and the company sponsors summits throughout the country.

The topics of discussion covered a range of applications from resiliency to natural disasters and solutions for agricultural energy challenges.

Event sponsors say sessions like this help in their technology research efforts.

” The applications for energy storage are unique here and to the different regions and what we’re trying to do is have a discussion about what those are and what are the common threats. So as we’re doing our early stage research on the technology that comes in the future, what are the threats that are there that can be applied, even through the applications may be different,” said Brad Ullrick with JCESR.

A number of key note speakers were also on hand for the session, including Congressman Trent Kelly.

He says the plans for new energy storage technology has big benefits for Mississippi taxpayers.

” I think energy efficiency is very, very important. And most importantly, is this is a group that brings together both the private industry, our public university system and also other government to work together to do things that are better for energy in Mississippi and energy storage in Mississippi and the nation, which at the end of the day, helps all tax payers,” said Congressman Kelly.
Congressman Kelly says he is working on crafting more energy efficiency plans for the state.
