Columbus, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County deputies made their tenth arrest in connection to a string of burglaries in the county.
Investigators found all sorts of items at a home on Victor Road after serving a search warrant yesterday.
Swords, televisions, guns, and jewelry were among the many different things investigators found.
“Between Thanksgiving and a little around the first of the year, our burglaries do pick up…”, said L.C.S.O. Captain Ryan Rickert.
Rickert said many of the burglaries occurred in the New Hope area, and that the age range of the suspects spanned from “early, late teens to mid-thirties.”
Rickert advises residents to be aware of their surroundings and their neighborhood, and if there is something suspicious, report it to authorities.
He also added although holiday traffic with families coming into town makes that difficult, still stay aware.
Oktibbeha County has also faced it’s fair share of burglaries.
Oktibbeha County Sheriff Steve Gladney said one of the big targets are cars, where suspects will go from car to car pulling on handles to find an open vehicle.
“If you’re shopping with gifts…put them in the trunk”, said Gladney, “…don’t put them in the back seat where people can see.”
Gladney also said his department is faced with the challenge with a college campus in the county.
He said that his deputies constantly patrol apartment complexes with heavy student populations.
Rickert said Lowndes County deputies have also increased traffic shifts and extra patrols to keep a presence in areas with burglaries.
Formal charges have not been filed in the Lowndes County case as investigators work to find the owners of the property and figure out how many burglaries are involved in this investigation.
More arrests are expected.
