El Nino Pattern Strengthening, Cool Winter For Southeast US?
The Climate Prediction Center issued a new update on July 9th in regards to the El Nino pattern that has been developing. An El Nino event occurs when water in the Eastern Pacific Ocean remains abnormally warm for an extended period of time. El Nino events tend to alter wind and weather patterns across North America, especially during the winter months.
Climate models suggest a 90% chance that the current El Nino event will continue through the winter months. Under a typical scenario, this would suggest a cool and wet pattern for the Southeastern United States.
