Columbus Man Remembered With Scholarship
PRESS RELEASE
(MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE) Thursday, September 24, 2015 – Malco Theatres is pleased to announce a new scholarship founded in memory of a long-time employee.
The Gary Dyer Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the late theatre manager’s dedication to the industry and overall love of Columbus, Mississippi. Gary was a career Malco employee who served as city manager in the Columbus area for 34 years before passing away in July 2013.
“Gary was a staple in the Columbus community and we wanted to create a special remembrance for him and his family”, said Jimmy Tashie, Executive Senior VP of Operations for Malco Theatres.
The $500 scholarship opportunity was presented to all local employees with a simple application process: submit a 500-word essay based on need, along with future plans. The inaugural winner was chosen by committee and awarded the scholarship to three-year employee Ryan Thomas Lowe, a pre-med student.
“I am overwhelmed with the great news! I would like to thank you for the kind words, and for choosing me as a recipient for the Gary Dyer Memorial Scholarship. To receive this scholarship is an absolute blessing to me. Malco has shown me a great deal of gratitude over the years. I will forever be appreciative. I will continue to exhibit a positive attitude towards the workforce. Once again, thank you for everything”, said Lowe.
Malco plans to announce the 2016 application process to employees in late spring.
