Alcorn Co. Man Sentenced for Insurance Fraud
ALCORN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — An Alcorn County man is going to prison for insurance fraud.
Attorney General Jim Hood announced Wednesday 35-year-old Joshua Marlar has been sentenced for insurance and wire fraud.
The Attorney General’s office says Marlar was paid about $206,000 in commission and bonuses by giving fake documentation for policy enrollment, while serving as an insurance agent between April and October 2011.
A judge sentenced him to three years suspended for insurance fraud, and five years to serve for wire fraud.
Marlar was also ordered to pay more than $157,000 in restitution to Colonial Life Insurance, nearly $34,000 to AFLAC Insurance Company, and more than $4,000 to the state.
He pleaded guilty in April 2014, but wasn’t sentenced until recently so he could collect some of the restitution money.
